 गृह मंत्रालय भारतीय पुलिस सेवा के ऐसे अधिकारियों की जांच कर रहा है, जिनका सेवा में प्रदर्शन सवालों के घेरे में है, गृह मंत्रालय ने सेवा में बेहतर प्रदर्शन नहीं करने वाले अधिकारियों के खिलाफ सेवा खत्म होने से पहले ही रिटायरमेंट देने की सिफारिश की गई ।

अधिकारी से मिली जानकारी के अनुसार आईपीएस अधिकारियों के प्रदर्शन और सेवा रिकार्ड की समीक्षा एक मानक और निरंतर प्रक्रिया है और इसे अतीत में भी किया गया है, इसके साथ ही उन्होंने बताया कि पिछले तीन साल में करीब 2 हजार आईपीएस अधिकारियों के कार्यों की समीक्षा हुई है, इनमे से 10 ऐसे आईपीएस अधिकारी है, जिनके खिलाफ लोकहित में सेवा खत्म होने से पहले ही रिटायरमेंट देने की सिफारिश की गई। वही अभी और अधिकारी जांच के घेरे में है |

अधिकारी ने बताया कि सेवा रिकॉर्ड की समीक्षा अखिल भारतीय सेवा (मृत्यु-सह-सेवानिवृत्ति लाभ) नियम, 1958 के नियम 16 (3) के तहत की गई। इसमें 2016-18 के दौरान आईपीएस अधिकारियों के कार्यों की जांच की गई थी ।

नियम में कहा गया है कि संबंधित राज्य सरकार के परामर्श से केंद्र सरकार किसी आईपीएस या आईएएस अधिकारी को लिखित रूप में कम से कम तीन महीने के पूर्व नोटिस देकर या इस नोटिस पीरियड के बदले में तीन महीने के वेतन और भत्ते देकर सार्वजनिक हित में सेवानिवृत्त होने के लिए कह सकती है ।

गृह मंत्रालय के आंकड़ों के अनुसार, कुल 3,972 आईपीएस अधिकारी देश भर में काम कर रहे हैं । आईपीएस के लिए कुल निर्धारित पदों की संख्या 4,940 है ।
